Our Second Student-Chosen Song of the Week. Thanks BNE5!
Paramore, an alternative band from Franklin, Tennessee, experienced their rise to fame after the release of their second album, “Riot!” Their instant success led them to began touring across the world. With sold out shows and chart topping singles, Paramore began to feel the pressure,
and get recognized. After “The Final Riot!” Tour, the band began to implode. They weren’t speaking to each other, and fought all of the time. Almost to a point of breaking up, they got together to produce the infamous song “Decode”. Although they made another famous song, they still hated each other. They met one last time, and began to talk it out. They said how they felt, and the next day, “Ignorance” was born. With lines such as “Don’t wanna hear your sad songs, I don’t wanna feel your pain” and “You treat me just like another stranger”, the world caught a glimpse of what they were feeling. The writing process brought them together, and they are now friends again. They made a new album, “Brand New Eyes”, which was just released recently, on September 29. “Brand New Eyes” is Paramore’s best work yet, and is very different from their past works. This week’s song is off the new album, and is called “All I Wanted”. It is an amazing song, and has already impressed fans and music critics. It shows how talented Paramore really is.

Listen here:
11 All I Wanted 1
Lyrics:
Think of me when you’re out, when you’re out there
I’ll beg you nice from my knees
When the world treats you way too fairly
It’s a shame, I’m a dream
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
I think I’ll pace my apartment a few times
And fall asleep on the couch
And wake up early to black and white reruns
That escape from my mouth
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
I could follow you to the beginning
Just to relive the start
Maybe then we’d remember to slow down
At all of our favorite parts
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
i actually really enjoyed this week’s song of the week. the song itself was one of the better ones, as far as my personal opinion on music, but the meaning and background was also good. i did not realize, until now, that paramore had even thought of breaking up, or that their new album was the product of the renewed friendship the members in the band have made. very interesting song of the week.
-youngmoney5
This song is a great one. Thanks BNE5. My take on the song is that she and her bf are goin through some trouble, or they broke up, and she is reliving the memories. she cannot stop thinking about it, so she paces and cannot fall asleep, so yeah. really heartfelt song, and i liked it. musically, a little typical for that kind of artist, but still good.
This song was really good! Nice pick! I have always enjoyed listening to Paramore’s more popular stuff, and it was great to hear something new. This song had some great lyrics, I really liked the last verse about starting over. You get the sense that a relationship did not go well and that the speaker wants to try and relive the relationship while emphasizing on the good parts. The music was good, too, I loved the guitars.
It’sMe!5
My number one reason for loving Paramore: Hayley Williams’s voice. It’s crazy good, but only an asset to this song. I though this song was about a relationship (of course) but more so of friends. It could be seen as friends who are fighting but one friend is uneasy about what happened and wants her friend back especially since what had happened between Paramore. Of course, its probably more about a non – platonic relationship and how somebody messed up and wants the other person back. I thought this song had a catchy melody to it, but I need room for it to grow on me.
autumnnewmath6
Paramore is doing so much for the “popular music” scene in th world. They create an awesome edgy sound that is almost uncharacteristic of bands in their genre. This band proves that you don’t have to have some whiny guy with blonde highlights singing to be a good band nowadays. I don’t think this song is about an individual person, it seems as though when she is saying “you” I think she is talking about anyone that would be there for her because she is living a lonely life.
wow… i really like this song… i have never heard it before this… it has a nice rhythem and a catchy tune… i just like paramore in general though… it seems to be saying that you can spend so much time wanting something that things just seem unimportant without that thing… (i know how that feels) thanks for choosing this song bne5…
i love paramore, but surprizingly ive never heard this song! Its really good! i love the music and the lyrics are great! But really what i find interesting is that they hated eachother and were still in the band together! i mean i know some of the people on my team arent my favorite people in the world, but to stay in the band together is amazing! you hear about this kinda thing all the time but the band usually breaks up and never gets back together (even when theyre back on good terms). i did not know that about them and its cool to learn something new about a band for english homework! good pick BNE5!

I really, really liked this song! The lyrics were easy to relate to. They were about two people who fell in love too quickly and their relationship ended on a low note. One of them wishes they could do things over again, knowing what they know now. I loved the part of the lyrics where it said “and wake up early to black and white reruns”. I can understand where the singer was coming from at that point. The music was also good for this song. I think it fit the lyrics perfectly. And, like many other paramore songs, I can see it playing in a movie. (:
Whywas6afraidof7?
this song was ok. i really dont get the point. i guesz they are tawkin bout what they went thru in the form of gf/bf relationship. but the words just dont capture me n i really dont like this…… =/

To start things off, I HATE Paramore, or, I hate what the mainstream made them become(my cousin’s friend has written a few songs for them btw. So I also disrespect them for not writing all of their music). I lovedlovedloved them when they only had All We Know is Falling. The mainstream put them under too much pressure from what I could tell. But, although I hate the band, this is a pretty good song(way better than that “Decode” crap).
But, if bne is correct about these songs being about them coming back as a group, then everything easily falls into place.
The first verse could be about how when they are fighting, the narrorator wants everything to be fine. They want things back to normal.
The second verse is my favorite. People pace and sleep when they are lonely and have no one to turn to. The black and white reruns that run from my mouth could talk about band rehearsals over and over again but the chemistry doesn’t work out at all.
The 3rd verse is saying that they want all the good times back and they want them rememembered.
I’m still not a Paramore fan. I’ll sing along, but I won’t like it. That’s muh personality.
GNG
i still the singer sounds like the chick from evanessence(forgive my spelling). definitely a talented singer. I think the message she is trying to get across is that she just wanted to be with this person, to spend time with them, to have them recognize that she’ll always be there for them. overall not a bad song.
I really liked this band. I have listened to them b4 but I never knew the background of them.Knowing the background of the song made it more personal. At least I think that’s the word Im looking for. It seems like she is singing about the pain of the band breaking up.
Professor prodigy6
girlsnotgrey6,
Paramore, and no one else, writes their music. Hayley, Josh, and Taylor write it. You can go look through all their albums and see the writers, and no one else is on any kind of list, and if your cousin, or anyone else for that matter, helped them write, they would by law have to be credited, and no one else is credited in the albums. Unless if your cousin is Hayley, Josh, or Taylor, they’re full of crap. Sorry, haha.
PARAMORE WRITES THEIR OWN MUSIC, AND THEY HAVE MADE THAT CLEAR FROM THE START.
i have always meant to listen to paramore but never got around to it. i have 2 say they r really good!! i like the sound of hayley williams’s voice. she has this chill somewhat mysterious sound that is pretty awesome. this song is somethin i could just play whenever i need 2 chill. i think that this song could b seen as them gettin back 2gether or just someone in a relationship beggin 4 the other person 2 come back. they will do anything 4 the other person just so they can b together again. im definately gonna check out more of paramore. great choice bne!!
~quartergirl5
WOW! Awesome BNE5! I really enjoyed this song! I thought it was about a girl who really misses the good times with her boyfriend. She is telling him to remember her always. She cant get him off her mind-typical love story. This song just shows you how a relationship is like a roller-coaster and how crazy it can seem sometimes. Loved it!
-jellybean6
girls not grey-
first of all that is so cool that your cousin wrote some of their songs! i mean i understand how you disrespect them for not using their own material but i would be braging about that every time someone brought them up! but thats not the point. i get what you said about them changing because of pressure. most bands are really good until they get on the radio and then they completely change their sound. weather or not theyre forced too or the pressure makes them change, i dont know. but thats what happens to everyone. it sucks but it happens. oh well.
i still think this is a really good song
Ok so I’m not exactly Paramore’s biggest fan (mostly because they songs are way overplayed on the radio). Anyway I think this song is about the break up and reunion of the band. Its saying that at first they loved each other, then the hated each, but now they are back together. It also kind of means the wished they could have done things right.
-captainlazy6
This is an awesome song! It was very obvious what the artist was talking about. She and a guy were in a relationship and it ended on a bad note. She says that the only thing she ever wanted was him and he broke her. This song was easy to relate to.
Jellybean6:
I totally agree with you. She wants the good ol’ days back with her boyfriend. but then again he broke her heart when all she wanted was him. i think she is trying to express her anger at him for her doing this to her!
~corgilover5
Ok wat it sounds like is that 2 people fell in love (or thought they did) and got into a relationship too fast. And not to be sexist but it sounds to me like it was mostly the girls fault the relationship didn’t work out. Now she wants her man back, but it’s not gonna happen. As an old R&B song says, “You can’t hurry love”.
First i would like to say that Paramore is ok. I find all of their music pretty much the same. I like the lyrics for this song. To me it sounds like she wants someone she cant have but she still desires that person. Over all i think that this song was a good pick. I enjoyed it. Thanks for the good pick.
Okay so i actually liked this song. Yeah I get that she wanted somebody. But what is the actual background meanning of it. Somebody spread some light on this please. I cant get any kind of interpretation!
ok first off this song really wasnt my cup of tea. it was kinda annoying and pitchy. Also i dont really get what the heck the girl is talking about. I kinda thought she was singin to a guy that she lost and wants back but i aint sure. Overall it was i guess an ok song even thiough i didnt really understand the meaning.
It was dramatic. Her voice sounded like it was in pain. Her dreams kept getting drowned out by the life she was living. Whoever “you” is, was stuck in life and had forgotten about his/her/their (?) dreams, and about the singer, and all she wants is for…it… to remember her and to find her.
xD If that makes any sense at all.
I think the song is about loosing yourself and trying to get back to where you TRULY want to be.
or need to be.
._.
That is all,
)
-GummyWormCasserole ! (
I really liked this week’s song. The lyrics were well written, but I felt it was a little too repetitive. We get it: all i want is you. I do like that I have heard of this band before now. I like Paramore a lot. They have good music, lyrics, and everything.
Paramore is one of my favorite bands!!! I love them <3! Anyway…I liked this song. The lyrics pretty much said that she would've begged some guy to take her back. She couldn't stop thinking about him and all the times they had together. She would've gone to the very beginning of the relationship to go slower. All she wanted was him =) I really liked the song of the week! This is the kind of music I listen to all the time anyways… =)
<3,
cheersince6
BNE5 you did a good job with picking a song
my take on this song was that a girl and her other significant are having trouble and know is when she needs him the most. The song gave that sad dreery sound to it. It made me realize that u should appreciate who i have and care for the ones who love me. Because its when they are gone that you take for granite their love to you. Hopefully her ending was a happy one.
p.s. the song had a great rhythm
I’m such a huge Paramore fan, and I love, love, love this song(well… now I do)! I got the new album the first day it came out, but I wasn’t very fond of this song at first. After listening a couple times and actually realizing the deeper meaning, I soon came to enjoy “All I Wanted”. I realized that this song is about a friendship breaking apart (just like the band), going through all of the stages of loneliness, and later coming back together and reflecting upon those recent disputes and their concequences.
P.S. bne5…I love your taste in music!
hi5
I really liked the lyrics, my favorite part being the third verse. I liked how they wanted to “start from the beginning” and “remember to pause at all their favorite parts.” That makes me think back to all the good memories I’ve had with friends that maybe aren’t close to me anymore. I really relate to that and I have found myself lately thinking about all the friends that I used to be really close to and how many good times we had, and even though we had lots of fun times we still grew apart and hardly talk anymore! So, overall I liked this song because it related to me, personally. (I also like Paramore anyway.. nice pick!)
~superchica06
Yaaaayyy for a good song! I lovve the the lyrics. I’m pretty sure i know what she talking about.. I mean i know it sucks when people dont realize how much they mean to you and I also hate how things change between somepeople sometimes..its really sad
This song was pretty good and definitely a lot better than their last song i heard: Decode. My favorite line is “When the world treats you way to fairly, it’s a shame” bc life definitely is never fair and probably shouldnt be. If everything in life was fair the world wouldnt be right. I dont know why it wouldnt, but it just seems like it wouldnt be. Idk, maybe it just wouldnt be the norm of what the world is today and i just cant envision it.
Well, I already like Paramore, so I knew I would like this song. It is a kind of crazy rock love song to me, like alot of their music. I love the instrumentals and the vocals. The lyrics are cliche in the sense that it is another love song about missing someone and messing up. It isn’t in the sense of how the story is told and how the lyrics are written.
Professor prodigy6:
I agree with you about making the song sound more personal once you knew a little bit of their background. I also listen to Paramore, just not on a regular basis. I like their music and I agree with everyone who likes Hayley’s voice. I think it sounds unique. Some of their songs are really old now and are stiiiiill played way to much for my liking, but this is the first time I’ve heard this song and i enjoyed it!
-elraha6
First of all, I think Paramore is great!! They have some awesome songs. I really like this song just because I think it’s sung by them. haha Anyways, I think the background or meaning of this song is about her and her bf and maybe how they just broke up or she never gave him a chance. She can’t help herself but think about him all the time and she really regrets not being with him anymore. She paces back and forth wishing he were there with her so she can be happy again. Great song choice!!!
Coolwhip5:
ohhh jeekz, well,
I believe she’s got a pretty voice, but I don’t think I’d ever compare it to Amy from Evanescence.
Her voice is like, “OMG!” :O
I think Paramore is more like a band than Evanescence is. I’m not sure about this, but I HEAR that Evanescence wants to kick the lead singer out of the band. xD It sounds ridiculous, right?
But, if you think about it, literally all of the music videos and album covers are all about her. They might as well have called their group “Amy Lee”.
Paramore seems to really be more about the band as a whole. The posters and music videos feature everyone, and no one is in the focus.
I like that about them. (:
Mmm, I was kind of thinking that maybe it’s not about her telling them that she’ll always be there for them, but to express that she feels like it’s too late, and that the whole time, all she ever wanted was for everyone to be together and get along.
: >
-GummyWormCasserole6 (!)
ugh same type of music week after week. do we not have any variety?
i agree with girls not grey on her description of the song. Basically, my thoughts exactly. and yeah that is kinda cool your cousin helped them write their songs but they need to write their own. If they were sooo good they could write their own.
AHS21#856
ill be honest, when i glanced over the lyrics ang the reviews so far, i thought this song would be just one more lame, unoriginal, boring, breakup song that about a million other bands have already done. i was half right. but before i say anything else, let me say that the singer was AWESOME.the way she dragged out high notes… WOW!! however, as far as WHAT she was singing,… BOOOORING…just as i suspected, the simple tune and rhythm guitar led right to the chorus(which consisted of one repeating line *yawn*) too quickly, then, after a couple minutes of this, the song was over. basically, love the singer, hate the song.
-danumbah5
i really like this song! the student choices are always the best. haha justkidding Mr. H! but anyways, i think this song was very enjoyable and relatable. i think that this is about a girl who is reflecting on a past relationip and she realizes that all se wanted was to be with this guy that she loves. they probably just caught up in the struggles of a relationship and made the mistake of seperating. ya seee? very relatable!
-thebestauntever6
p.s. everytime i do a post i forget to type in the anti-spam word thing and i have to retype it all!! ughhhh.
I really like the song of the week this week!!! Everyone feels like this at least once in their life. If not that is really weird. But i think Hayley Williams was really hurt by someone and is trying to tell them the way she feels. A really good song choice i think!
I totally agree with whywas6afraidof7?!!! That is how i understood the song too. Actually i think that is how everyone took the song. But I still think it was a REALLY great choice for this week!!!!!
So when I was reading the intro to the song, i was automatically excited to liten to it beause I’m already a huge fan of Paramore. I had no idea that they were going to break up and I didnt know that they had a new albumn out. The song was really good, and the lyrics, I can relate to, well the “all i wanted was you” part. It definitely is one of their best songs i admnit.
Paramore always amazes me. I haven’t heard anythimg from the new album before this, so it is good to get a taste of what it is like. The lyrics, to me, seem like she really wants things the way they were, and is singing in an attempt to get these feelings back. “All I Wanted” shows how talented this group is and shows how they have reunited and are together again, music like that does not come from anything less than a completely unified band.
As far as mainstream pressuring bands to change their sound, I disagree. I know i mention them about once a week, but Skillet recently made the leap from Christian rock, to mainstream rock. They have not changed their sound at all. Although they have gone through about every genre of music out there since they started out in 1996… but That has helped to create their current sound, they have a truly unique sound appropriately referred to as “The Skillet Sound” So, all bands are not pressured to do this. Many are, but (my opinion) if the band is truly talented, they won’t even feel the pressure to change anything. they’ll just do their thang.
01110100_101_6
I don’t really listen to Paramore’s music, therefore I can’t really compare it to their past album of songs. However, I do like this song because it reveals many messages in just a few amount of words. The words “All I wanted was you” expresses so many feelings and emotions just within that. The song sounds like it’s describing a lonely person who remembers great and wonderful memories and means more than just memories to one. Yet, it was a waste of time. On the flip side, when one “starts over” in a relationship, they know when to slow down at the memorable and good parts. This way they learn from their past and previous mistakes and realize what really is most important.
-frogrclogr_5
i LOVE paramore! they are friggin amazing! although, i never knew they were thinking of breaking up. this song was very good and it really came from the heart. it really explains why they decided to stay together and why there next album is gonna be amazing!!! very nice song this week! no offense mr hudson, but lets stay with the student picks, or atleast music like this
THANKS!
jugaralbeisbol5
I’m all with this whole “respecting other people’s opinion” thing, but what some of you all are saying is just rude. Girlsnotgrey6, BNE5 is right. If your cousin wrote some songs for Paramore, why doesn’t he/she sue them instead of just bragging about it? And just to rant for a little while here, I don’t know if most of you have realized, but almost no popular artist writes their own songs. People are hired to write songs for them, so check out what your saying before you say it, if you get what I’m saying.
Moving on, I liked this song. At first Paramore’s songs sounded like a lot of the same, with little dynamic contrast and stuff. This song, however, has lots of different little themes running along that show that Paramore has matured a lot as a band.
I definitely DO NOT think this song is about a boyfriend, just because Im sick of seeing the same opinion over and over. It’s most likely about Hayley(who has a beautiful voice) wanting the band to work out but wanting even more for all of the members to be friends again.
I could follow you to the beginning
Just to relive the start
Maybe then we’d remember to slow down
At all of our favorite parts
I think this is about her wanting to start over and not get caught up in fame or anything, but just enjoy the ride.
A+ on the song
~ctg876
well i enjoyed the overall song. Im not a really big fan of paramore, but the song was pretty good. The overall message was there, al she wanted was him. however, i wish she would have made a story or something from it instead of just putting random phrases. It was decent though.
Well I thought I made it clear before, but…..
PARAMORE WRITES THEIR OWN MUSIC, NO ONE ELSE.
And someone was asking about the meaning and there’s been a lot of confusion, the songs not about the breakup or hayleys relationship. It is about a relationship however.
I wanted to see what people thought about the song before I said this, so here it goes:
The funny thing about this song is that although it has a great meaning and thoughtful lyrics to it, the song has nothing to do with past experiences of the band. They made it for
people to relate to, and I love this song.
I have just recently heard a few paramore songs and i liked them but tis song is not really what i like.I think the song is about two people who have disagreement in their relationship and now she wants him back.
I agree with cra5ydancinfool. The song is really too repetitive wit all i wanted was you. we get it. All she wanted was him.
this was an okay song. it was a little depressing and slow for me though. i did enjoy the lyrics. it is like that saying “if you arent satisfied with what you wanted, it wasnt what you desired in the first place” -C.S Lewis. at least, that’s what i thought of all she wanted was that person and then she gets that person and writes a really sad song about it, so she obviously wasn’t satisfied.
I really liked the song All I wanted by Paramore. It was very calm to me and very quicklike. I liked the guitar part, it wasn’t really heavy metal, it was a soft part. I didn’t like the fact that she kept repeating the same line, she could have added a little more lyrics. Overall, it was a good song, I like Paramore.
pinkpuffs502
GirlsNotGrey,
I might say that was kinda harsh. I don’t really listen to Paramore, i kinda liked this song though. She sang it with emotion. It told the whole story about how she wakes up to nothing except black and white reruns on tv. I think the story behind the song was pretty nicely put.
i actually liked this song. the lyrics really spoke to me. it had an underlying theme. like i could apply the line “all i ever wanted was….” and i could fill in the blank and it would fit. even though it is slow and not normally what i listened to, i really liked it. thank you BNE5!
This is my favorite song of the week so far. Paramore is so awesome! We are doing one of their songs in my church youth band right now, and it is so much fun. I just think their lyrics are so passionate and the music really sets the mood for them. We should definitely have more alternative stuff like this for song of the week!!
Maybe like “I Miss You” by blink182 or “Be My Escape” by Relient K. just some ideas…
Cardsfan5
I totally agre with your opinion of pitchy. It throws the feel of the song off. I also just kind of guess at the songs meaning. It was too short and the lyrics too vague to understand why or what she sings to or about. Over all the song was good i guess but its pretty generic for this band.
DarkMoon6
BNE5
I really liked ur blog. As I said before it is great to know the background of the song. I want to thank you for sharing it. The details u gave helped interpret the song better.
01110100_101_6:
I agree with much of what you said. The unison and bonds they have recreated within the band have put together more than just an album. The feelings and emotions are described through the lyrics in the song, but they not only relate to themselves, but to everyone else in the world. Obviously, they all felt the same and did not feel like giving up on the breakup of the band. Like you also mentioned, if they are talented enough, they are willing to try anything to be a team and work together to build up that togetherness. Through this song and others on this album, you can see the harmony of everyone’s appeal in trying to get what they hope for.
-frogrclogr_5
Whywas6afraidof7?
You really described the song well. I agree with what you said about Paramore. Like many of their songs this could also go into a movie. I wonder which song you could be talking about being in a movie. Heh. I also agree with you about people being able to relate to this song.
It’sMe5!
I love love love Paramore. I’ve recently bought the new album, and I have to say that I love it. It’s not common to see a really great band that has a girl as the main singer. Paramore reminds me of another band, Hey Monday. If you’ve never heard of them, you should go check them out. Anyways, I love this song. My favorite song on the new album is “Brick By Boring Brick” only because I love the lyrics (:
-dance336
Ok I really liked this song of the week! To me, the song is saying that the person only wanted the one that they loved. Hate could also replace love, bw. I like how the song starts out mellow and gets louder as it goes. To some, the repitition can get unnerving. To others, it just makes a good song. I think it all depends on how you perceive it. Like bne5 said, the song was made for people to relate to.
youngmoney 5
i have to say i dont really understand how u came to that conlusion about the meaning. I didnt really get the meaning like i sed before. Even thoughi dont get how u got that, it kinda make since and could be a really good, deep meaning. And just another thing i didnt know they were gonna break up either but it relly dont affect me cus i never listen to them
I really really liked this song. I’ve heard other songs by paramore and really enjoyed all of them. I liked this 1 in particular b/c I think it’s 1 of those songs that a lot of people can relate 2. I know I can!!!! I love songs that I can apply 2 situations that are happening in my own life. Paramore is a really good band and I can relate to a lot of their songs. Not only do I like the way this song speaks 2 me, I like the way the lyrics flow with the music. It’s something I can take my time and listen to. It doesn’t go 2 fast and it doesn’t go 2 slow either. Overall, REALLY GOOD SONG CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never heard this song ever in my life. Yet somehow i feel that a few months ago this would have been my theme song.I was very lost, but now i am not and i am very happy! Thanks for psting this song! If i ever start to feel that way again i will be listening to this one.
I agree with a lot of people on the meaning of the song. I agree with those of u who think that this could possibly have something to do with “that perfect some1″. I think that some of the lyrics do hint a person that she really liked. But I also think that this could have something to do with problems and issues within the band that they felt like they had to get off of their chest. This song could possibly have many different meanings and that’s y I love it so much. I like how it says “All I wanted was you” because you can take that 1 line of the song and say that it applies to anything or any1. So I’m not really picking sides. I agree with some of everyone.
I wrote a song for Paramore once. It was called “All I Have is This Shoe.” This masterpiece was amazing but never got published. Instead it was replaced with “All I Want”. It still upsets me to this day.
PS: In this post I am agreeing with bne5 on the statement that Paramore writes all of their songs and to ctg876 that if someone had written a song for them, why would they not recieve credit and just brag about it.
i would have to disagree with take5. it was just a bad slow song. i couldn’t find an underlying theme and i dont know if i could fill in the blank with anything. even the lyrics made no sense to me. i can’t quite figure out what the song is talking about. but that’s just my opinion take5. dont want to offend you.
Ok so, Paramore is one of my favorite bands and I’m really surprised that i haven’t heard this song before! I think the character in the song was in a relationship with a guy that she really had feelings for but unfortunatly they kind of rushed everything which turned their relationship sour. Maybe she still has feelings for him but he has moved on and now she just wants to start over from the beginning.
